FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NUMBER:

I refer to your requests for information dated 16 and 17 March 2005, which were received by Strathclyde Police on those dates. Your requests have now been considered and, as such, some of the information you requested is detailed below. I can also advise you that Strathclyde Police does not hold some of the information requested by you. In terms of Section 17 of the Act this letter represents a formal notice that information is not held. The questions, which this notice refers to, are as follows:

How many people (in Strathclyde Region) have committed suicide as a result of being investigated by Operation ore?

The Force does not hold information, which would fully establish that any person committed suicide as a result of being investigated by Operation Ore.

What was the cost of investigating all those in the Strathclyde area?

The actual costs for Operation Ore are not available. Operation Ore was conducted over a period of time between 2002 and 2004 and was generally absorbed as core business by each territorial division involved.

How many computers were found to have child porn on them relating to Landslide sites?

The forensic examination of computers by Strathclyde Police did not specifically look for Landslide sites. Where indecent images of children were found on a suspect’s computer they were secured as evidence. The source of the image was not always known.

How many suspects were in the Strathclyde region?

A total of 96 suspects were identified.

Have all been investigated?

All 96 suspects have been investigated.

How many convictions in Strathclyde from this operation?

There have been a total of 22 convictions to date. A number of cases are still pending.

How many of those convicted were actively abusing children?

No Strathclyde Police Reports to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to Operation Ore reported actual physical abuse of children.

Why were AVS subscribers arrested?

All persons within Strathclyde who were found to have indecent images of children on a computer and other items seized from their homes were the subject of a report to the Area Procurator Fiscal.

Why were Keyz subscribers arrested?

No suspects identified s having only subscribed to Keyz were arrested within Strathclyde.
